'Tipping the Denton Linney'

This statue was unveiled by Councillor Martin Wareing MBE JP (Mayor of Tameside, 1988/89) on the 12 Oct 2005.

It is the fourth statue of a series which includes all nine towns that constitute the Borough of Tameside. It shows a man doffing his Linney hat, a famous brand of hat once manufactured in Denton by Walker, Ashworth & Linney Ltd. The statue stands opposite the former Denton Town Hall (now a library) and it is dedicated to the workers of the hatting industry.
