Queen's Hotel

Manchester Rd, Denton
The Queen's Hotel was situated on the north side of Manchester Rd, immediately to the east of Denton Station. It was built in 1870 and it was licensed as a railway hotel in 1871, the first landlord being William Walker Cooke (died in 1905, aged 81 years), who was also responsible for its construction. It was owned by the London and North Western Railway Co but in 1903 Boddington’s Brewery leased it from them and subsequently it was leased to Burtonwood Brewery. On the 11 May 1980 it ceased trading and in Nov 1983 it was demolished to make way for the construction of the M67 motorway.

When the hotel first opened it was described as having very large rooms on the ground floor, which provided first class facilities. The bedrooms provided accommodation to the extent of nine beds, exclusive of the family and staff. There was a coach house and stable with three stalls and space could be made for two more.
